As an author and former illustrator for ACE Books in New York, I have always had a deep love of books and a profound respect for writers.

I found a love for words and writing before I was old enough to go to school. I have two older sisters who loved to play teachers and made out lessons and reading assignments for me regularly. I was reading stories in the Reader’s Digest before I could tie my own shoes – even if some of the bigger words were hard to comprehend. I loved books and I loved to write – I was hooked. That’s where my passion for this industry developed. This is my happy place!

I soon started writing my own stories! I won my first author’s award when I was in grade school, but I had written my first book by the age of four, The Swan. Although the title was lacking, being fully illustrated made up for it. I bound the book in cardboard laced with bright orange yarn and offered – what I saw as a treasure – to my mother. I have it now, tucked away somewhere. Mom brought it out of hiding and gave it back to me as a keepsake when I got my first paid commission as an illustrator over 20 years ago.

I wrote an epic fantasy at 13, it was hand-written, it was my baby. I wrote a tearjerker too, but never finished it. As I grew older my main focus turned to art and instead of facing rejection letters I took a contract position as an illustrator with one of the largest publishing houses of the time – I was stunned when they accepted me.

All of my writing took a back seat except for some random written pages of inspiration that I eventually stuffed in a box, of course. I ended up publishing some poetry finally, but not until I was 31, and thought with my busy career, I might not get back to writing until after I retired.

My career fell apart when the economy tanked in 2009, I found myself putting all of my efforts into Mundus Media Ink and my graphic design. Even then I had no idea I’d be where I am today. I am so glad that fate stepped in my way and brought me back to the creative endeavors that I love.

I opened Mundus Media Ink (MMI) in 2005 and worked mainly with small businesses designing brands. MMI now offers me the opportunity to do the work I love, working with writers.

I became an independent book cover designer in 2012, and have worked with many indie authors, some best-selling authors, and contracted with a few publishing agencies. I also continue to illustrate and have done some covers that you can see in my portfolio and also illustrated a couple of children’s books.

Over the years, I’ve soaked up everything I can find about self-publishing –  I have found it helpful to my clients who have tons of questions most of the time, all having to do with the process they’re facing. Self-publishing is work, and if you don’t have a well-structured plan for your launch, your book may get lost before it’s ever discovered. I try to help as much as I can.

I also volunteer my time to give back to the writing community often, check this out …

And yes, finally, I returned to my love of writing! Having an online business and blog, I found I had to create content to grow my business. I love writing about what I’ve learned and I love being able to help others with their talent and passion.

Just this year, I became a self-publishing consultant and writing coach. I provide writing guidance and coach others through the process from conception to post-launch.

I help writers develop their platform and brand – the theme and style that encompasses who they are in the publishing world. Platform development is a way of packaging the writer and their work into a marketable product – and brand design is the process of making the entire package visually appealing. I help writers develop brands that entice viewers into discovering everything they have to offer.

I’ve helped writers develop their book outlines, and provided writing guidance as well as content editing. I outline video presentations for social media, assist with podcasting, marketing, and even website design. I’ve basically offered assistance with almost all things self-publishing in order to help the writers I work with to achieve their writing goals and find success.

    1. Hi Andrea, thanks for your comment. It means a lot to me what you said. The last ten years have been an adventure full of changes and growth. I’m grateful my circumstance brought me to my passion. Working with other writers is wonderful. I feel blessed more than anything. Thanks for bringing some more sunshine to my day 🙂 ❤

  1. Looked at your pricing and illustrations, and both are very nice! I’m following you, and have several projects in the works that, when nearer to completion, will contact you regarding your ideas. Do you do concept drawings? If so, at what price?

My children’s book, “Stinky and the Night Mare,” is scheduled for release sometime in October, and is illustrated by someone in the style of Garth Williams. Then I saw your bookcover design for “The Tree House,” and gasped!

    Keep in touch please.

And thanks for visiting my online writing studio.
